What is Emergency Hormonal Contraception (The Morning After Pill)?
If you have had sex without using contraception or you think your contraception may have failed you can act quickly to prevent a pregnancy.
Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC) pills (sometimes called ‘the morning after pill’) are very effective at stopping a pregnancy from happening, but you must take them within 72 hours (3 days). They are most effective if taken within 12 hours, therefore it is important to be aware of where to get this from as soon as possible. A coil can also be fitted 5 days after unprotected sex (or later in some circumstances) – this can also prevent pregnancy. Contact your local contraception clinic for details – click here.
